Daines Continues to Fight for All-of-the-Above Energy Solutions

Today, Representative Steve Daines joined the House in passing job-creating legislation to boost the economy and increase global energy security through the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to U.S. allies.

The Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act removes extensive delays facing future LNG export applications by shifting the benchmark from Free Trade Agreement Countries to World Trade Organization members.

The recent natural gas boom in America has led more U.S. companies to seek permission to export LNG to non-free trade countries. Increasing LNG exports has the potential to create up to 452,000 jobs between 2016 and 2035.

"Ongoing instability overseas reaffirms the importance of North American energy independence. That's why I'm fighting for an all-of-the-above energy plan that also creates jobs and keeps energy prices low for Montana families," Daines said. "Recent turmoil in Ukraine and the Middle East shows that we cannot afford to miss the window of opportunity to become a net exporter of energy, while working to strengthen our national security and help our allies meet their energy needs."

Analysts have concluded that America has more than enough gas to supply our domestic needs and the export market, but more than 20 petitions to export LNG to non-free trade countries are currently pending -- some for more than a year.
