Issue Position

As a proud veteran who appreciates the sacrifices all veterans have made to protect our freedoms, I not only look out for their interests, I fight hard every day to make sure they have everything they need and deserve.

Currently, of 535 members of Congress, only 20 percent are military veterans. In 1975, that number was 70 percent. Military service provides an important perspective that will make me a better Congressman. I believe we need more men and women in Congress who have honorably served this country in uniform.

I'm honored to have served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division and why I still serve as a major in the Army Reserves. And as a proud veteran who appreciates the sacrifices all veterans have made to protect our freedoms, I not only look out for their interests, I fight hard every day to make sure they have everything they need and deserve. That includes writing the law that protects our fallen veterans and their families from protests at military burials. I was also successful in securing funding for the PFC Joseph Dwyer Program, a statewide program I launched to help returning veterans cope with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

As your Congressman, I will do everything in my power to assist our military veterans. Health care access, PTSD treatment, and backlogs of disability claims are just some of the issues I look forward to tackling.
