Cassidy Comments on Canada's Approval of Pipeline to Send Oil Overseas

Today, Congressmen Bill Cassidy (R-LA) commented on the news that while Americans have been waiting more than 5 years for the Keystone XL pipeline to be built, the Canadian government approved a proposed pipeline that will ship oil to China.

Canada has approved a $6 billion oil pipeline project that is expected to transport 525,000 barrels per day to Asia, mainly to China. The project is expected to produce $1.2 billion in tax revenue, $4.3 billion in labor-related income in a four year period, and contribute more than $300 billion to Canada's gross domestic profit in the next 30 years.

The Keystone XL pipeline would cost $7 billion and be able to move up to 830,000 barrels of oil per day. About 20,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs would be created from the pipeline's construction.

"This President's refusal to build the Keystone XL pipeline is forcing our closest ally to create jobs in China rather than here in the U.S. The Senate should be focused on creating jobs--not enabling the President's hostility to oil and gas jobs. The President must stop disregarding thousands of workers, the people he is supposed to represent, who want these jobs. American workers are ready to build--the President and Senator Reid should let them."
