Issue Position

America has long benefited from the heroism, expertise, and sacrifice of our military servicemembers. Our veterans have forged a military legacy that is second to none, and they deserve our deep respect and admiration.

America's veterans deserve the benefits they earned through service to the nation. I am committed to making sure that our veterans are able to access health care without delay, pursue education and job training opportunities, and enjoy secure retirement.

Action: Improve veterans' health care.

No veteran should have to endure a long wait for medical care. I have met with Veterans Affairs officials to discuss the resources they need to reduce wait times and called on the President to end the backlog of disability claims. I support legislation to make it easier for the VA to respond to poor performance and hold people accountable for mistreating veterans. Congress needs to continue to develop policies that improve access to treatment, including for mental health, and that provide veterans' caregivers with the resources and support they need to care for our heroes at home.

Action: Help veterans prepare for future careers.

Veterans spend years developing leadership skills and training in occupational specialties that qualify them for civilian-sector careers and make them valuable assets in our businesses and in our communities. I support efforts to ease the transition from military service to a living-wage career because our families and communities, as well as our businesses and economy, are strengthened when veterans enter the workforce. I also support robust education benefits. Helping veterans finance a college degree or industry-recognized certificate is, without question, a good investment.

Action: Protect veterans' benefits.

Veterans and their families must have more resources to refinance home loans to take advantage of lower interest rates. For far too long, homelessness among veterans has affected too many in our nation. I am advocating for legislation to extend services for homeless veterans and for stable housing for those escaping domestic violence or sexual assault. Veterans deserve to know that Congress will honor their service, and veterans can count on me to stand up for them and the benefits they've earned.
