Rep. Boozman Praises President Bush's State of the Union Address

Congressman says President Bush's speech showed "true leadership"

Washington, Feb 2 - Representative John Boozman (R-AR) issued the following statement tonight after President Bush's State of the Union speech:

"In his first major speech of his second term, President Bush confidently laid out an agenda that builds on the accomplishments of the past four years."

"President Bush has never shied away from a challenge and showed that he isn't about to tonight. He is willing to take on the tough issues that others run from, which is a sign of true leadership."

"The President talked about our successes abroad - about how our brave servicemen and women have liberated two countries from governments that supported terrorism, giving the people of Afghanistan and Iraq the power to determine their own future at the voting booth while making the world a safer place."

"Not only has President Bush fought terror and spread democracy abroad, he has made life at home better. Over 2.3 million jobs have been created on his watch and the tax burden of every taxpaying American has been reduced. The education system that teaches is children is changed for the better and for the first time, our seniors have real prescription drug coverage under Medicare. Yet this President knows his work is not done."

"I was pleased to hear President Bush lay out his plans for the most challenging domestic issues our country faces. I look forward to working with him on his domestic policy proposals to reduce healthcare costs, cut the deficit, promote faith-based organizations, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, reform Social Security, make tax relief permanent, expand educational opportunities and protect life.
