Letter to Bill Enyart, Congressman of Illinois

Dear Congressman Enyart,

I am writing to respectfully request a series of open debates to allow Illinois' 12th District residents an opportunity to hear our viewpoints before any ballots are cast in the November elections.

The issues facing our country are too important for voters not to have multiple venues to hear the candidates, which is why I hope you will join me in committing to a debate in each of the district's 12 counties. The first debate should take place in July when Congress is not in session continuing into August and ending in October. Each debate should allow a public audience to be present and have the opportunity to ask and submit questions to the candidates.

There are many arrangements to discuss over the debate rules between our campaigns however, I ask that you and I come to an agreement on the exact number without requiring the typical back and forth between the campaigns. The people of Southern Illinois deserve no less than having a local debate in their home county and we should not deny them that opportunity. I hope you agree.

We should let the voters know sooner rather than later whether they can look forward to hearing from us next month, in our first debate. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
