Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Mourns the Pope's Passing

WASHINGTON-Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) today mourned the loss of Pope John Paul II.

"Today, the world mourns the loss of a great, great man. Pope John Paul was truly a godly man. Few in world history have so strongly embodied goodness and peace as he has. He overcame oppressive occupation in his homeland and later worked with President Reagan to bring down Communism in Eastern Europe. He was a unique historical figure that will be missed by billions.

"His faith and testimony transcended any and all political, geographical, and ethnic rifts. Truly he fulfilled the Apostle Paul's words: 'I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.'

"His soul is at peace. His death is our sad loss, but Heaven's glorious gain."
