Polis Comments on President's Student Loan Announcement

Statement

Representative Jared Polis (CO-02) today made the following statement after President Obama announced changes to the federal student loan program:

"I am encouraged that President Obama has recognized the need to alleviate the overwhelming burden of student debt carried by so many people in Colorado and across the nation. While extending relief to more Americans is a step in the right direction, only legislation can simplify and streamline our complicated student loan system. I am proud to co-lead the bipartisan ExCEL Act, which would create affordable payment plans, with automatic paycheck deductions for all students, and extend protections for borrowers in times of financial stress. I urge my colleagues to pass this legislation and make higher education more affordable and accessible for all Americans."
