Horsford Speaks Out For Nevadans Cut Off From Unemployment Insurance At "Witness Wednesday"

Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) joined House Democrats at a press conference hosted by the Center for Effective Government to read testimonies from Americans cut off from emergency unemployment insurance. Since last December, more than 3 million Americans have been cut off from this vital economic lifeline.

Below is a transcript of Rep. Horsford's remarks:

"Thank you, Dan, and to my colleagues who are here, and to our partners who are trying to bring a voice to 3 million people.

"I was elected to Congress from Nevada's 4th District to be a voice for my constituents, some 37,000 Nevadans, who have concern, who are feeling tremendous pain, because the Republicans in Congress won't allow us a vote.

"I want to share a story from Juanita, from Las Vegas:

""After losing my job, my son and I can't even afford food or a place to live. We have had a really hard time. I ended up losing my home and my car with no money to get around while looking for work. I walk around every day looking for work and putting in applications. We can't afford health insurance.

""If unemployment extension is approved, that would at least help me get back on my feet and get around to more places to find work. I'm a single mother, and with my son it's really hard. There are people out here who really need the help-- single mothers and fathers, who are trying very hard to just take care of their homes. Think of the little people and help. Please.'"

Each Wednesday, Members of Congress will join together outside of the Capitol to read stories from their constituents who are struggling because they lost their unemployment insurance.
