Lujan Statement on Internal VA Audit Showing Long Wait Times for Veterans Seeking Medical Care

Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico's Third District released the following statement today on the release of a Department of Veterans Affairs audit showing that nearly 3,500 veterans have had to wait more than 30 days for an appointment at the VA facility in Albuquerque.

"Today's VA report is deeply disappointing and confirms what we have been hearing from too many veterans in New Mexico. The wait times for veterans seeking the care they have earned is simply too long. The systemic problems that have plagued Albuquerque's VA facility, along with VA facilities across the country, must be addressed swiftly and thoroughly. It is simply unacceptable that in New Mexico new patients have to wait on average 45 days for primary care and 57 days for specialty care. Our brave veterans deserve better and I will continue to fight on their behalf as Congress addresses this critical issue."
