I have always worked to keep America safe and our borders secure by making sure our military is the best-equipped, best-trained fighting force in the world. I also worked closely with local law enforcement to make sure they had access to Homeland Security funds and tools needed to protect our airports, ports, waterways, and public infrastructure from potential terrorist attacks. In 2002, I was named Legislator of the Year by the California Narcotics Officers' Association.
Finally, I have always held government accountable to fulfill its promise to our nation's veterans and help them in every way possible. As a result of my tireless commitment, during my time in Congress I received American Legion's Certificate of Appreciation.
