America's complicated and contradictory tax system benefits the politically connected at the expense of people who work hard and play by the rules. Every year, Americans are asked to pay more in taxes and receive less in public services. The federal government is now borrowing 40 cents of every dollar to sustain unprecedented deficit spending.
Financial security can only be achieved by allowing Americans to keep more of their hard-earned money, so they can provide for their healthcare, higher education, retirement savings, or local business.
As a former Representative, I consistently led the fight to reduce the tax burden on America's working families, small business owners, local farmers, and ranchers. I was a critical supporter of one of the largest tax cuts in history, supporting landmark legislation in 2001 and 2003 that eliminated the marriage tax penalty, increased child tax credits, and reduced the death tax. These tax cuts helped jumpstart economic growth by incentivizing job creation, business investment and consumer spending.
As a businessman, I know the importance of supporting tax credits that allow businesses to invest in new hiring, as well as new equipment tools, technology, and alternative energy. I've used my position on key committees to reduce the regulatory burden on employers and taxpayers caused by bureaucratic government agencies, such as the IRS.
As a result of my efforts to cut taxes, The National Federation of Independent Business recognized me as a "Guardian of Small Business." I was also named "Hero of the Taxpayer" by Americans for Tax Reform and was also honored with the National Tax Limitation Committee's "108th Congress Tax Fighter Award."
