Good Roads Lead to High Quality of Life

Congressman Carter and the House of Representatives today voted to fund our Nation's critical transportation infrastructure and housing programs today by passing the FY15 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development bill. The legislation passed by a vote of 229-192.

"Transportation and infrastructure in our local community are crucial to quality of life. They help the local economy to create jobs, grow small businesses and provide Central Texans with a strong quality of life," said Congressman Carter, former member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation. "While there is still more to do to correct Obama Administration energy policies that have created shortfalls in the Highway Trust Fund, which supports many critical transportation projects, this bill is a good step in the right direction."

This legislation includes $52 billion in discretionary spending, which is consistent with the House passed budget. It spends $1.8 billion less than FY14 and $400 million less than FY12, and is a decrease of $7.8 billion below the President's budget request. This legislation:

Provides $9.75 billion for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to keep our airports and skies safe and efficient by fully funding air traffic control personnel

Helps communities build, maintain and keep their mass transit systems by providing $8.6 billion in formula grants

Includes $75 Million for veterans' housing vouchers

Rejects the Obama Administration's proposals for new fees on passenger facilities and general aviation flights
