Walz Supports Bipartisan House Measure to Expand Veterans' Access to Care

Statement

Today, Representative Tim Walz voted in favor of a bill on the House floor that would expand access to care for veterans by making it easier for certain veterans to see doctors closer to home if they so choose. Veterans would be eligible if they reside more than 40 miles away from a VA medical facility or if they can't be seen within VA wait time goals.

"The number one thing I heard last week from local veterans, especially those in our rural areas, is they want the ability to see doctors closer to home for routine care. That is why I supported this bill that would expand veterans' ability to do just that. While this bill is no silver bullet, it will cut down on travel time for rural veterans and provide relief to overburdened VA hospitals, while at the same time ensuring veterans can see a doctor in a timely manner.

"As we move forward, I will continue working in a bipartisan manner with the VA Committee, local veterans, and their advocates to enact comprehensive reform at the VA and restore veterans' faith in the system."
