Cassidy Comments On DOE Changes To LNG Exports

Press Release

Date: May 30, 2014
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Energy

Congressman Bill Cassidy commented on the Department of Energy's (DOE) proposed procedural change to its "public interest" determination for U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.

The U.S. Department of Energy is proposing to make final public interest determinations only after completion of the review required by the National Environmental Policy Act review (NEPA review), and suspend its practice of issuing conditional commitments.

Dr. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) released the following statement:

"On the face, it will benefit some companies invested in Louisiana. My concern is that this also gives left-wing environmentalist groups the power to file lawsuits and delay projects indefinitely. I don't trust the Obama Administration to be neutral and I don't trust the government to pick winners and losers. The Obama Administration knows the American people do not like their anti-energy agenda, so they prefer to push their policies through bureaucratic mandates and not through Congress and the rule of law."
