Cassidy Addresses Mental Health

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy participated in an Energy and Commerce briefing regarding the committee's report on federal programs that address severe mental illness. This report came from a yearlong investigation on mental health resources and programs that was prompted by the mass shootings in Newtown, Fort Hood and Washington, D.C.

Congressman Cassidy is an original co-sponsor of H.R. 3717, Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act, a wide-ranging reform proposal that addresses mental-health research, the shortage of mental-health-care providers, and clarifies what kind of information treatment specialists could share with families.

Dr. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) released the following statement:

"We know the consequences of untreated mental illness. We have seen them too often. What happened in California this another horrifying example of why we cannot wait any longer to address this issue. By identifying and treating mental illness, we can address the root of these problems."
