Cassidy Proposes Amendment to Help Manufacturing Companies Grow

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy introduced an amendment to the Promoting New Manufacturing Act that will cut red tape and help modern, new manufacturing facilities be built in the U.S.

There is an estimated $112 billion in new manufacturing projects related to abundant natural gas supplies. In Louisiana, 66 industrial projects--worth some $90 billion--will be breaking ground over the next five years. However, manufacturers are facing challenges in obtaining necessary preconstruction permits under the Clean Air Act to proceed with some of these projects.

The Promoting New Manufacturing Act will help reduce the red tape that is blocking many job-creating projects, such as coal-fired power plants, the Keystone XL pipeline, or other energy infrastructure projects.

The Cassidy Amendment would build greater bi-partisan support of the legislation by clarifying that new manufacturing facilities must install the best available emissions control equipment. The amendment will ensure modern, new, clean manufacturing facilities will be built in this country using technology that protects air quality and public health.

"Families are struggling, and America's natural gas can create jobs. As an example, in Louisiana, construction projects worth $90 billion and tens of thousands of jobs have been announced.

"Excessive EPA regulations threaten these jobs. The Cassidy Amendment eliminates EPA red tape. We should roll out the red carpet for these jobs, not the red tape."
