Cassidy Comments on FERC Announcement on Midla Pipeline

Press Release

Date: May 23, 2014
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Oil and Gas

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy responded to the announcement by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission that they will hold a special meeting from May 29 and 30, 2014 to try to reach a settlement in the Midla pipeline dispute. The meeting will be conducted by FERC's Dispute Resolution Division, and the owners of the Midla pipeline will be present. Representatives from other relevant parties will also participate.

Congressman Bill Cassidy (R-LA) released the following statement:

"FERC is holding a meeting to resolve the Midla pipeline dispute is good news. This is what I and others have been pushing for. The next step is making sure gas remains affordable."

Dr. Cassidy has been a leader in advocating for natural gas customers who are served by the pipeline. On April 29, 2014, he sent a letter with Senator David Vitter to Acting Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chair Cheryl LaFleur to conduct a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the abandonment of the Midla pipeline. Additionally, he has called for a safety verification of the Midla pipeline by the Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration, so alternatives to abandoning the pipeline can be explored.
