As the son and husband of school teachers, I have seen first hand the successes and failures of our school system. A very large percentage of state spending is allocated to education. Taxpayers have the right to expect results.
At the same time, we must also ensure that we have local control in education. I'm very concerned about the federal government attempting to exert authority over our state and county education system. Common Core, for example is the latest, and most egregious example of the attempts by education bureaucrats, many of whom have never taught in a classroom, to force local school boards to submit to a "one size fits all" curriculum or standard.
My priority in education spending is to ensure that the vast majority of our dollars are spent in the classroom, not on administration and bureaucracy. A key principle that guides my decisions on education policy is ensuring that money is spent where it belongs
on teaching our students!
I'm also in favor of school choice and charter schools. What are your thoughts on education? Emailing me at justin.ready@house.state.md.us is the best way to reach me.
