Would Lift I-39 Weight Limit Restriction
During debate on the House's Transportation and Housing & Urban Development (T-HUD) Appropriations bill today, U.S. Representative Sean Duffy (WI-07) offered an amendment to allow up to 98,000 pounds for logging trucks on a 12 mile stretch of I-39, between Rib Lake and north of Portage. Currently, trucks are forced to split off of US 51 and take back roads to complete their route to the paper mill causing a safety issue to the drivers and community who utilize these side routes.
