Rep. Schneider Supports VA Secretary's Resignation

U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement after the President announced today that he accepted Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki's resignation.

"Secretary Shinseki has served his country bravely and with distinction, and he is unquestionably deeply committed to serving our veterans. However, I believe the circumstances at the VA make it all but impossible for him to lead the urgent changes the VA needs and our veterans deserve. Therefore, I agree the time has come for Secretary Shinseki to step aside and allow a new leader to move the VA forward."

On May 14, Rep. Schneider personally requested that the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, located in the Tenth Congressional District, carry out its own internal review of its health care practices.

He also sent a letter to Secretary Shinseki asking that the VA's nationwide audit of its medical centers be thorough, effective and comprehensive. Rep. Schneider also voted for a bill to give the VA Secretary even greater flexibility in punishing his senior executives and holding them accountable.
