Collins Amendment to Enforce Immigration Laws Unanimously

Press Release

Date: May 30, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Doug Collins (GA-09) offered and the House last night unanimously agreed to his amendment to H.R. 4660, the 2015 Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations bill.

The Collins Amendment prohibits federal funds appropriated through H.R. 4660 from being used to assist state and local entities whose laws and policies contradict or obstruct federal immigration law and enforcement.

Congressman Collins said, "This amendment sends a clear message that if localities and jurisdictions refuse to honor ICE detainers and implement policies that contradict federal immigration law, they should not be eligible to receive funds, specifically federal reimbursement grants under the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program. We can't talk about enforcing the laws on the books--which is the foundation of any movement toward fixing our immigration problem--if federal dollars can be used to undermine those laws."

Before the measure was approved with no objection, Congressman Collins discussed it on the House floor.
