WASHINGTON March 31, 2005 -- Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) today made the following statement concerning Terri Schiavo:
"The death of Terri Schiavo marks a sad day not only for Terri's family but for the entire nation. I think everyone who has heard about the true facts of this case has grieved as Terri's life ebbed away over the last two weeks. The circumstances surrounding the case were unique; it's hard to understand the justification of starving to death an otherwise physically healthy 41-year-old.
"I hope that this unfortunate event serves to help us re-evaluate our laws and the importance that this nation has historically placed on life and its sacred nature -- the realization that all life is precious and a gift from God.
"Furthermore, I hope this tragic ordeal inspires action and that Congress will take appropriate legislative steps to assist those in circumstances similar to Terri Schiavo's."
