Congresswoman Matsui Statement on the FCC's Vote on Incentive Auction Rules

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, issued the following statement after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted on the Incentive Auction Rules:

"Chairman Wheeler has proposed a creative solution to both fully fund FirstNet and ensure competition in the incentive auction room. Consumers will be the real winners. A competitive incentive auction will help ensure a dynamic wireless marketplace that spurs innovation and offers choice for consumers. This proposal strikes a good balance that will allow the wireless marketplace to remain competitive."

Earlier this week, Congresswoman Matsui led a letter to the FCC calling for a competitive bidding process in the incentive auction of broadcast television spectrum. In particular, the letter argued that a proposal to reserve a portion of the available licenses for limited nationwide low-frequency holdings will stimulate auction competition and revenues.
