Gov.Issues Executive Order to Assist Farmers and Ranchers

Gov. Mike Rounds today declared by Executive Order that it is in the best interest of our farmers and ranchers to allow over width loads of hay to move on state highways during nighttime hours from Jan.1, 2005, until March 31, 2005.

"This action allows our South Dakota farmers and ranchers to transport feed to their livestock during a time of year when daylight hours are few," Gov. Rounds said.

Specifically, the Executive Order states:

Notwithstanding SDCL 32-22-2, that permission is granted to move over width baled livestock feed over any public highway of the state trunk highway system and interstate system in the State of South Dakota between one half hour after sunset and one half hour before sunrise; such vehicles are not to exceed 12 feet in width or 15 feet in height, and must be equipped with flashing or rotation white or amber warning lights placed at each side of the load's widest extremity. The warning lights shall be clearly visible to motorists approaching from front and rear. Movement under this executive order is valid only for movement of baled livestock feed to a destination point within South Dakota.
