Governor encourages service clubs to deliver coin ballots to nursing homes and hospitals

As voting on the South Dakota Quarter passes 35,000 ballots cast over the Internet, Governor Rounds today encouraged South Dakota Service Clubs to take an active role in assisting citizens who might not be able to vote to cast their ballots.

"We have many South Dakota citizens who are residing in nursing facilities, hospitals, and veterans' homes," Rounds said. "Service clubs can coordinate with their local lending institutions and take ballots to these people. As life-long South Dakota residents, they may have an opinion about the image of our state, and they should have a chance to vote on the image South Dakota puts on the State Quarter."

The South Dakota quarter selection process is taking place on the internet at www.sdquarter.com , and through South Dakota State Banks and Credit Unions. All votes will be tallied after the close of voting on April 15th and the winning design will be announced by April 20th, 2005.
