Gov. Rounds approves $307,500 in CDBG money

Murdo plans to construct an Education and Technology Center and Plankinton will upgrade its storm sewer system with help from the $307,500 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding that Gov. Mike Rounds has awarded to these two South Dakota communities.

"The new Education and Technology Center in Murdo will really serve as a multi-purpose facility. One thing it will do is provide additional space for the Jones County School District," Gov. Rounds said, adding that Golden West Communications has committed to providing the School District with channel access and wiring to transmit a cable signal in the technology portion of the project. "The community also plans to use the facility for meetings, public and private functions and training seminars. This center will definitely bring new learning opportunities to the residence of this area," the Governor added.

Plankinton will use the CDBG funding to help upgrade its storm sewer system. "The existing 18 inch storm sewer pipe is inadequate for the drainage of even minimal rain storms. Increasing the current line to 24 inches will dramatically improve the removal of excess water from the streets," Gov. Rounds said. "Improving the infrastructure of our local communities is an important part of the state's 2010 Initiative. The state is pleased to play a role in making this happen," the Governor concluded.
