Rep. Schneider: New Climate Change Report Underscores Urgent Need for Action

Statement

Date: May 6, 2014
Issues: Environment

U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement after the White House issued the National Climate Assessment today.

"The report underscores the already-urgent need to address climate change and its effects on our planet, our economy and our communities. Climate change is a real, pressing threat, and we must begin confronting and addressing the causes and implications now.

"While some may still dispute proven climate science, this report demonstrates how important it is to move beyond bickering and work together to lessen the human impact on the Earth's climate.

"We can reduce emissions, minimize man-made impacts and ultimately slow and reverse some of the effects of climate change. We can't afford for this report to sit in a drawer. This demands a new, bold and long-term strategy to tackle the issue of climate change."

A member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), Rep. Schneider is vocal about the need to combat climate change and protect our environment. He recently organized a forum of local leaders and environmental experts to discuss and develop strategies to preserve the Great Lakes.
