Labrador Votes to Establish Select Committee to Investigate Benghazi

Rep. Raúl Labrador (R-ID) voted for legislation today that would create a select House committee to investigate the Benghazi terrorist attack of September 11, 2012. Within hours of the attack -- and continuing through today -- the Obama administration has stonewalled Congress and misled the American people about the events of that day and why they occurred. The creation of a select committee will help hold the administration accountable and spur greater action to bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.

"The American people have a right to know what happened in Benghazi," said Rep. Labrador. "They are tired of the administration's willful campaign of misinformation. They want the truth - all of it - and they deserve it. Under the leadership of Chairman Gowdy, the House will do all that it takes to get answers for the American people."

On September 11, 2012, U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed in a terrorist assault on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.

Last week, a court order revealed an email about Benghazi that the White House had been withholding from Congressional subpoena. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney compounded the damage by denying the email was about Benghazi.

"It's a matter of public record that the White House has been untruthful about Benghazi, working to cover it up, and deceiving the American people about the cover up," said Rep. Labrador. "With the administration continuing to stonewall, Congress has an obligation to sort out the truth. This is about Congress exerting its oversight authority over the executive branch. We owe it to our nation to get to the bottom of what happened and to make sure it never happens again."
