Ayotte Statement on Illegal Referendums in Eastern Ukraine

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) released the following statement today regarding the illegal and illegitimate referendums held in eastern Ukraine on Sunday:
"The May 11 referendums in eastern Ukraine by armed separatist groups were an unconstitutional and illegal farce.
"Rather than engineering illegitimate and destabilizing local referendums, all Ukrainians and international actors-including Russia-should support the effort to conduct free and fair national elections on May 25 that meet international standards for transparency, organization, and inclusivity.
"Any attempt to undermine the May 25 election should be seen for what it is-an attempt to subvert the will of the Ukrainian people and the sovereignty of the Ukrainian government."
