Lankford Votes to Hold Lerner in Contempt of Congress

Statement

Representative James Lankford (R-OK) released the following statement after the House voted 231-187 to hold former IRS official, Lois Lerner, in Contempt of Congress for failure to comply with a congressional subpoena:

"Our vote today to hold Lois Lerner in Contempt is another example of the hoops the Obama Administration has forced Congress to jump through in order to get the truth," said Lankford. "Ms. Lerner cannot claim she did nothing wrong, broke no laws, then fail to answer any questions from Congress. She answered all of DOJ's questions, but she refuses to answer to the American people.

"As Director of Exempt Organizations for the IRS, she was the acting officer during the IRS's alleged targeting of conservative organizations seeking tax-exempt status. We must move forward on behalf of hard-working American taxpayers with our investigation. This Administration obfuscates details and continues to stall every attempt to uncover the truth, not just in this investigation but regarding Benghazi and Operation Fast and Furious as well. The IRS owes every American taxpayer the truth about whether or not the IRS, a supposedly neutral federal agency, specifically targeted Americans seeking tax-exempt status based on their political beliefs. We must ensure this type of misconduct does not happen again," concluded Lankford.
