Today, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued its Final Environmental Impact Statement on Cameron LNG, LLC's and Cameron Interstate Pipeline, LLC's Liquefaction Project.

Dr. Cassidy has been a leader in supporting the expansion of the Cameron LNG plant. In a letter to FERC Chairman Jon Wellinghoff in April 2013, Dr. Cassidy encouraged building the project that will expand Cameron LNG's existing facility and be able to export 12 million tons of LNG per year. The terminal is strategically located near a major pipeline hub that serves nearly two-thirds of all U.S. natural gas.

The review concluded that environmental impacts would be reduced to less-than-significant levels with the implementation of Cameron's proposed minimization and mitigation measures, and will be beneficial to Louisiana.

The letter sent to FERC is below.

Dr. Cassidy released the following statement:

"The Cameron LNG export plant will create jobs and preserve our environment. And I'm glad FERC agrees. The project should be completely approved as soon as possible so we can start exporting millions of tons of liquefied natural gas per year. This increases Louisiana's ability to power America's economic recovery."

Louisiana has a proud and rich tradition of providing a variety of energy resources that have been used to build and strengthen America's economy for over a hundred years. In keeping with our history of energy leadership and production, our state pursues all safe and environmentally feasible alternatives to grow our economy and put our nation back to work. That commitment to energy resource production has naturally evolved into the development and deployment of our natural gas assets. Simply put, we have the natural gas, the workers and the commitment to make sure natural gas is available, accessible and affordable.

We are writing to express our support for the announced further expansion of the Cameron liquefaction facility situated along the Calcasieu Channel in Hackberry, Louisiana. Cameron LNG has entered into the formal FERC certificate application process, and we are writing to express our support for a thorough but timely review and decision on Cameron LNG's FERC filing.

As you are likely aware, the project is the proposed expansion of the Cameron LNG facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. We are grateful for the role both the Department of Energy and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission have played in allowing Cameron to develop their existing facility into a liquefaction export opportunity. The exciting $6 to $7 billion liquefaction project will utilize Cameron LNG's existing facility, adding three liquefaction trains with a total export capability of 12 million tons per annum of LNG. The terminal is strategically located near a major pipeline hub that serves nearly two-thirds of all U.S. natural gas, and the proposed expansion project has earned strong community and stakeholder support from local, regional and statewide leaders and organizations. Their goal is to begin delivery of LNG to international markets by 2017.

As Louisiana stands poised to once again provide the energy resources to power America's economic recovery, Cameron LNG is poised to be a key player in that process. Thank you for your consideration of our views on this matter.
