Cassidy, Vitter Request Investigation of Midla Pipeline's Potential Abandonment

Statement

Date: April 29, 2014
Issues: Oil and Gas

Today, Rep. Cassidy and Sen. Vitter are calling on Acting Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Chairman Cheryl LaFleur to conduct a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the abandonment of the Midla pipeline.

This request builds on Dr. Cassidy's ongoing efforts to provide greater transparency on the safety the Midla pipeline, which delivers natural gas to nine parishes in Louisiana. He recently spearheaded a letter from the Louisiana delegation to urge a safety verification of the pipeline, and then called on Chairman LeFluer to discuss this with him further.

Dr. Cassidy released the following statement:

"The Midla pipeline serves thousands of people in Louisiana, and it's important we examine the safety of the pipeline before irreversible action is taken. Louisiana families are worried about the unaffordable energy rates and uncertainty that would come with abandoning the pipeline. I will continue to work with the Louisiana delegation to push for more detailed safety records on the pipeline."
