Cassidy Urges Landrieu to Act on Lifting the Offshore Revenue-Sharing Cap

Statement

Today, Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) urged Senator Mary Landrieu to consider the House-passed bill that would lift the revenue sharing cap as soon as possible. Sen. Landrieu recently mentioned that lifting the cap on offshore revenue-sharing is her "number one goal" as Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chair. Dr. Cassidy released the following statement:

"Everyone in Louisiana agrees that increasing the amount of money that Louisiana receives as its share of royalties from oil and gas drilling off our coast is essential. The Cassidy Revenue Sharing amendment, which passed in the House of Representatives in 2013 and is waiting to be brought up in the Senate, would accomplish this. If Senator Landrieu uses her position as Chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee to consider the Cassidy Revenue Sharing Amendment now, the President can sign it into law and Louisiana would receive billions more in revenue for coastal restoration and hurricane protection projects. I respectfully ask Senator Landrieu to not stand with Harry Reid and President Obama, and join me in fighting for Louisiana."

The Offshore Energy and Jobs Act (H.R. 2231), which was passed in the House and referred to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, includes the Cassidy Revenue Sharing amendment, which would increase the revenue sharing cap placed on Louisiana and other Gulf Coast states by the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006 (GOMESA).
