Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement on the extension of the re-registration deadline from May 2, 2014 to July 22, 2014 for Haitian nationals who have already been granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and want to maintain their status for an additional eighteen months. The agency recently announced an extension of the Temporary Protected Status designation for Haiti, to January 22, 2016.
"I commend the Department of Homeland Security and Secretary Jeh Johnson for extending the re-registration period for Temporary Protected Status, a decision that will allow more Haitian nationals in the United States to renew their participation in this important program," said Congresswoman Clarke, who has worked with her colleagues in Congress to investigate the allocation of disaster assistance since the earthquake in 2010. "The remittances that have been sent to Haiti by those women and men who have Temporary Protected Status are a critical to families there who are still working hard to recover from the earthquake."
