Lankford: Oregon Deserves Working Health System, Not What Washington is Pushing

Representative James Lankford (R-OK) issued the following statement after Oregon's announcement yesterday that the state would abandon its state health insurance exchange and shift to the federal exchange:

"Obamacare's state exchanges were supposed to work as easily as a tourism travel site, but Oregon's hundred-million dollar failure doesn't resemble any vacation plan I've ever seen. Only a few weeks ago, Greg Van Pelt, a representative for Cover Oregon, testified before my Oversight Subcommittee that he believed Oregon's enrollment numbers could sustain the exchange's expenses. After a rocky website start and higher-than-expected expenses, it appears sustainability is unattainable, as asserted by yesterday's recommendations to dismantle the state exchange. The people of Oregon deserve a system that works, instead of being forced to take what Washington is pushing. Oregonians should consider joining the Health Care Compact with nine other states, including Oklahoma, who believe states can run health care better than Washington bureaucrats."
