Congressman Doug Collins (GA-09), a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, today voted in favor of the resolution to hold former IRS Director of Exempt Organizations Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress for her refusal to cooperate with the congressional investigation into the IRS targeting scandal.

"Those who deride this as a partisan endeavor have no regard for the Article I responsibility of Congress to oversee the actions of the federal government," Congressman Collins said. "Lois Lerner's refusal to explain herself and what she knows about the IRS targeting practices is unacceptable."

Collins concluded, "Today's vote to move forward with contempt proceedings was a vote for every American who believes we must restore trust and accountability, and that we must protect every American's right to actively participate in the political process without fear of retribution."

The measure passed the Oversight and Government Reform Committee with a vote of 21-12.
