Today Congressman Kevin Cramer issued a statement after the House of Representatives voted on the Ryan budget.

"While today's budget is not perfect, we cannot continue down the endless path of growing a 17 trillion dollar debt. No one said balancing the budget could be done without some sacrifice. However, the sacrifice we are talking about is the difference between growing the government at a rate of 5.2 percent per year as we do currently, and reducing it to 3.5 percent per year. It is a matter of slowing the growth of government to be more in line with the growth of the economy. Government stimulus has been ineffective at creating jobs and inspiring investment. This budget is designed to finally turn our economy into a job creating one. At the same time, it funds priorities including the defense of our nation, which is the number one responsibility of the federal government, and the veterans who have served and protected our nation. The House also voted on several alternative budgets offered by Democrats, each containing trillions in tax increases without ever balancing the budget. The President's budget, including a $1.8 trillion tax increase and a $791 billion spending increase, received only two votes. At the other end of the spectrum, the conservative Republican Study Committee offered a more aggressive path to balance which I could not support."
