House Passes Budget that "Empowers Americans to Build Better Lives."

Statement

Rep. Todd Rokita, a member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed the FY15 Budget.

"For the fourth year in a row, we passed a responsible budget that will balance and empower Americans--present and future--to build better lives for themselves and their families. This budget will spur economic growth, repeal ObamaCare, and strengthen and reform safety net programs. It stands up for families and small businesses by attacking the bloated programs, cronyism, and corporate welfare that undermine free enterprise and opportunity. This budget shows we trust the American people with their own lives.

By contrast the Senate offered no budget for the fourth time in five years, and the President offered a spending plan that raises taxes, grows the size and cost of the federal government, and piles up trillions in new debt. For every problem, government is their solution."

The FY15 Budget, the Path to Prosperity, was authored by Rokita, Budget Chairman Paul Ryan, and fellow members of the House Budget Committee to balance the nation's budget, make responsible reforms to strengthen safety net programs, create jobs, and grow the economy.

For the third year in a row, the House budget includes Medicaid reforms advanced by Rokita that would strengthen the program by giving increased flexibility to states. Rokita's State Health Flexibility Act would reform the Medicaid program by block-granting the federal share of Medicaid funding to states, providing increased flexibility in the delivery of Medicaid services. The data shows that local communities are best at determining who is poor, and how best to give them a hand up from poverty. Rokita has been joined on the bill by 50 cosponsors.
