Bilirakis Receives Distinguished Leadership Award

Press Release

Date: April 17, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bilirakis (R-FL) was recently presented with the Distinguished Leadership Award from the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas, Inc, a non-profit organization entrusted with coordinating services and care for seniors, the disabled and caregivers throughout the two county area. Executive Director Sally Gronda hailed Bilirakis as "a proven friend of seniors and noted that throughout his career at the state and federal level, the Congressman has distinguished himself as a leader who can be trusted to protect the best interests of our most fragile citizens."

"It is an honor to receive this award from such a great community partner," Bilirakis said. "Throughout my career, I have worked hard to protect our seniors. I will continue to fight for our Greatest Generation by working with my colleagues in Congress who are examining the Older Americans Act, fighting against cuts to popular programs such as Medicare Advantage, and working to secure seniors' retirement by strengthening Medicare and other vital programs." Bilirakis added, "I am humbled and inspired by this honor and remain committed to ensuring older Americans are treated with the dignity they deserve."

Bilirakis praised the Area Agency on Aging and its partner agencies for providing quality services to the elderly within the region and noted his desire to continue working with these outstanding organizations in order to meet the needs of his constituency. Their next collaborative effort is a Congressional Senior Wellness and Identity Theft Prevention Fair, which will be held on May 12, 2014, at Alice Hall in Zephyrhills, Florida from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Seniors and their caregivers can attend to learn more about the services and programs available within the community. This free event is open to the public. For more information, please contact the Office of Congressman Gus Bilirakis at 813-501-4942.
