Horsford Praises CMS Proposal To Boost Medicare Advantage Benefits

Press Release

Date: April 9, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) released the following statement in response to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) 2015 rate announcement and final call letter for Medicare Advantage and prescription drug benefit (Part D) programs:

"I support the revised CMS notice, which protects and strengthens Medicare Advantage and will put the program on a stable path into the future," Horsford said. "It is critical that we keep our promises to our seniors and ensure that they continue to have access to quality care at affordable rates."

CMS estimates that Medicare Advantage payments will increase by .4%, which replaces the original 1.9% cut to Medicare Advantage payments included in President Obama's budget. Another key change outlined in the notice is lower out-of-pocket drug spending. In 2015, beneficiaries included in the Part D prescription drug gap will receive greater savings on prescription drug purchases from the Affordable Care Act's Coverage Gap Discount Program.
