Congressman McNerney To Host Stockton Event For Women Interested In STEM Careers

Today, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-09) announced he will host an interactive forum to encourage women to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The event will take place Saturday, April 12th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m, at the University of the Pacific Biological Sciences Center Room 101, located at 3601 Pacific Ave. in Stockton.

Attendees will be able to learn about the different types of STEM jobs, some of the unique challenges and opportunities for women - and resources for pursuing a career in STEM-related fields. The event is being held in cooperation with University of the Pacific's Advancing Women's Leadership Program.

"Many jobs of the future are in STEM fields, and we need to make sure women are well- represented in those industries," said Rep. McNerney. "This event is meant to encourage women of all ages to get excited about STEM education, and to empower them with the tools they need to embark on a successful, rewarding career."

The Congressman will be joined by prominent women from the area and around the country who pursued their passion and now work in STEM fields. Panelists include Dr. Jennifer Blank of NASA's Space Sciences and Astrobiology division; Jennifer Fraser, Senior Manager of Data Center Engineering at Twitter; Dr. Windy McNerney, Neuroscientist at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory; Dr. Kimberly Cockerham, MD, - F.A.C.S., Opthalmologist; and Laura Ochoa-Sanchez, STEM Grant Coordinator at San Joaquin Delta College.
