Ayotte Backs Bill to Incentivize Businesses to Hire More American Veterans

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) has helped introduce bipartisan legislation aimed at incentivizing companies to hire more veterans by providing small businesses with some relief from the burdensome employer mandate included in the president's health care law. The Hire More Heroes Act (S. 2190) was introduced by Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO), who also filed the bill as an amendment to the unemployment insurance legislation currently pending in the Senate.

The bill would allow employers to exempt employees who already have health care coverage through TRICARE or the VA from counting as a full-time employee under Obamacare's employer mandate.

"It's deeply concerning that our veterans, who have sacrificed so much to protect our country's freedom, continue to face high unemployment and difficulty when looking for a job outside of the military," said Senator Ayotte. "This legislation will incentivize small businesses to hire veterans by exempting veterans from being counted towards the employer mandate's 50 full time employee threshold."

The bill is supported by the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States and the Retired Enlisted Association.
