U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) released the following statement today in reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the case of McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission, which struck down aggregate limits on donations individuals can contribute to candidates for office and political party committees in an election cycle:

"I disagree with the Supreme Court's decision to overturn nearly forty years of campaign finance law. It is disappointing that a slim majority of the Court continues to rule in favor of the few instead of in the interest of a broad-based democratic system. I will continue to advocate for greater disclosure and increased transparency, but I remain very concerned with the current trend at the Court and in Congress when it comes to political spending."
