Lujan Announces $120,000 in Economic Developmnt Funds for Eastern Plains Council of Governments

Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico's Third District announced today that the Eastern Plains Council of Governments will receive $120,000 through the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to assist with efforts to increase private capital investments and job creation in the region.

"A coordinated strategy to promote growth and economic development is essential to building a brighter future for the eastside as well as fostering an environment that supports the small business community," Congressman Luján said. "These important federal funds will strengthen the Eastern Plains Council of Government's ability to carry out its mission of coordinating regional development in an effort to bring good jobs and new opportunities to our communities."

The Economic Development District Planning investment will support efforts to establish a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Eastern Plains Council of Governments, which includes Curry, DeBaca, Guadalupe, Harding, Quay, Roosevelt, and Union counties. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy. Last year, the Eastern Plains Council of Government was awarded $60,000 from EDA to support its efforts.
