"Research has conclusively shown that addressing the health and nutritional needs of children from the beginning of pregnancy and continuing over the first 1,000 days oflife results in more healthy outcomes for both children and their mothers. Integral to the success of such critical life-saving programs throughout the developing world are faith-based organizations, working in partnership withgovernments and other non-governmental organizations. This hearing will underscore how the quality of life for mother and child is so dependent on adequate medical care from the earliest stages of pregnancy, as well as thevalue of holistic outcome objectives such as educational and economic performance."
