The Duckworth Diary - March 21, 2014

Statement

Dear Neighbors,

This week, I visited the Sikh Religious Society of Chicago Gurdwara Sahib in Palatine to meet with constituents. I was happy to meet with members and leaders of the community to discuss how I can best represent their needs.

I also coordinated the donation of surplus laptops from State of Illinois Central Management Services (CMS) Surplus Program to local Veterans Service Organizations, including the VFW and American Legion. It was wonderful to meet with so many of our local heroes who will use these donated laptops to help other Veterans in the community. The laptops will be used for communications efforts, updating resumes, looking for jobs and applying for VA benefits. I am thrilled that Congress passed the FOR VETS Act of 2013, which will allow for the expansion of these kinds of donations in the future.

On Thursday, I met with Wei Chai, a manufacturing company with offices in Rolling Meadows. We discussed how we can collaborate on how they can bring more jobs in research and development to the 8th District.

Today, I am attending the FED ED Champion of Public Education Award Luncheon. FED ED is a consortium of Illinois school districts school districts, educational organizations and corporate sponsors that represents the interests of suburban schools. Our children need a first rate education to compete in a global economy and it is great to meet with leaders who are standing up for education in our community.

I hope you are having a great week.

Sincerely,

Congresswoman Duckworth
