Congresswoman Matsui Statement on House Passage of H.R. 3370, The Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act

Statement

Date: March 4, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives voted in an overwhelmingly bipartisan manner to pass H.R. 3370, the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act:

"I have always fought to keep flood insurance rates low for Sacramento residents and I am pleased that today's vote is a step toward this goal. During debate on the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act, I fought for and achieved a gradual phase in of the flood insurance rates. My amendment limited most cost increases to no more than 20% a year. Today's vote builds on that victory and lowers the annual cost increase to no more than 18% a year, saving homeowners money and helping keep flood insurance rate increases under control. I will continue to work closely with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to keep flood insurance rates low and affordable."
