Governor Warner Announces Appointments to University of Virginia Board of Visitors

Governor Mark R. Warner today announced four appointments to the Board of Visitors at the University of Virginia.

The individuals appointed today include those recommended by the Governor's Advisory Commission on Higher Education Board Appointments, established in February 2002 by Governor Warner with instructions to review potential candidates for higher education board appointments based on merit, experience, sound judgment, and proven leadership.

"Each of these individuals has strong ties to the University of Virginia, outstanding records of community leadership and a demonstrated commitment to ensuring access to a quality higher education for all Virginians," Governor Warner said.

A. Macdonald "Mac" Caputo of Greenwich, Connecticut, is Advisory Director of a major New York based investment bank. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University, where he was first team All-American in lacrosse and captain of the varsity soccer team. Caputo currently serves as a member of the University's Investment Committee, the Executive Board of the Jefferson Scholars Program, and the University's Law School Business Advisory Board.

Alan A. Diamonstein of Newport News is a Senior Partner in the law firm of Patten, Wornom, Hatten & Diamonstein. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University, and holds Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from The College of William & Mary and Christopher Newport University. A member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1967 until 2002, Diamonstein served as chairman of the House Appropriations Higher Education Subcommittee.

Thomas F. Farrell, II* (reappointment) of Richmond is President and Chief Operating Officer of Dominion. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University, and currently serves as Vice Rector of the Board of Visitors. Farrell also serves on the board of Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Engineering and has served as a member of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

Vincent J. Mastracco, Jr. of Norfolk is a Partner in the law firm of Kaufman & Canoles. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University and his law degree from the University of Richmond. Mastracco currently serves on the Board of Directors of Virginia Wesleyan College and serves as chairman of the Finance and Investment Committee for the Eastern Virginia Medical School Foundation.
