Van Hollen Statement on the President's Budget

Statement

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on President Obama's budget proposal:

"Today President Obama submitted his fiscal year 2015 budget request that expands economic growth, makes critical investments in our future, and responsibly reduces the deficit. It closes special interest tax breaks that encourage companies to ship jobs overseas and invests those savings here at home to power our economy and sharpen our competitive edge. These investments in education, scientific research, advanced manufacturing, and vital infrastructure -- coupled with an increase in the minimum wage -- will help put Americans back to work and grow the middle class. The President's budget also puts the federal debt on a consistently declining path as a share of the economy. It is a proposal that strengthens our nation and helps ensure broadly shared prosperity."
